Updates

Have you heard? There are big changes coming to the intersection of South Airport/Hoover/Sisters Road on Thursday, Sept. 28. PONCHATOULA—Starting Thursday, Sept. 28, there will no longer be a four-way stop at the intersection of South Airport, North Hoover, and Sisters Road. In order to accommodate the next phase of construction of the new traffic circle, motorists will begin using the new roundabout pattern at the South Airport, North Hoover and Sisters Road intersection, Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller said. “Temporary signs, barricades, striping, and cones will direct traffic around the new roundabout configuration,” Miller said. He urged motorists to drive slowly and “exercise patience” while maneuvering through the new traffic pattern. Crews will be working in and around the circle during this transition period. Miller said to expect delays while crews work close to travel lanes in order to complete curb and gutter work, which must be finished before asphalt is applied to the roadway.

Today Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller participated in a roundtable discussion on the extreme heat conditions we’ve experienced this summer. Miller told the subcommittee of the Congressional Transportation and Infrastructure Committee that FEMA should develop plans for releasing federal assistance in emergency situations like the wildfires that impacted our community this summer. “While these unusual events do not have specific beginnings and ends, like a natural disaster would, they are nonetheless emergency situations that are beyond the scope of traditional service,” Miller said. Miller spoke on the call as a representative of the National Association of Counties (NACo), who supports this proposal because it would give local authorities the ability to declare an emergency and request funds or equipment without requiring a Presidential declaration.

Parish President Robby Miller recent led a discussion on economic development at the state LIDEA conference in Baton Rouge. When asked about the challenges Tangipahoa faces in landing new business and industry, Miller told economic developers that one strategy that works well for us is addressing any negatives or shortfalls up front. He said being forthcoming has been a positive for #TeamTangi, and he makes it a policy to provide the public with as much information about projects as possible. Miller also told economic developers that broadband is every bit as important as sewer, water, and electricity for incoming industry. That's why Tangi's Broadband project is going to be a game changer for our parish! #BestParishintheState

A portion of Randall Road will be closed starting Monday, September 25, 2023. Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller said DOTD will close the north end of Randall Road by the Calvary Christian Center property starting Monday, Sept. 25, to replace the bridge. “The project calls for replacing the old timber crossing with a new concrete bridge,” Miller said. The project will take several months; however, if weather conditions cooperate, the bridge could be open as soon as the end of the year, barring any issues. The estimated cost of the bridge replacement is $1.35 million.
